Aldgate is a Town Class ( Large Woolwich) steel Motor Boat, built for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company Ltd by Harland & Wolff at Woolwich.
She was launched in August 1936, and operated under fleet number 103, with the Grand Union gauging number 12555 , and registered at Rickmansworth as number 133 on Feb 16, 1937.
'Aldgate` was powered originaly by a National DM2 water cooled twin cylinder engine. This was replaced in the 1950/60s by a Petter PD2 air cooled 2.25ltr twin cylinder diesel producing 20hp @ 1500rpm.
